Achievements of the IPA Cross-Border Cooperation Programme Montenegro- Kosovo 2011-2013 presented

On 19th January 2018 in Podgorica, the Final Conference of IPA Cross-border Cooperation Programme Montenegro-Kosovo 2011-2013 was organized, where the results achieved within this programme were presented.

The opening speech was held by the Minister of European Affairs of Montenegro, Mr. Aleksandar Andrija Pejović, who emphasized the main achievements in the framework of the implementation of nine projects, in the total financed amount of 3.7 million euros. These projects have contributed to the achievement of the concrete objectives related to economic development, environmental protection and promotion of biodiversity, promotion of common natural resources at the border, such as agriculture, forestry and tourism development.

On behalf of the Operating Structure from Kosovo, the Deputy Minister of Local Government Administration, Beqir Fejzullahu, thanked the Ministry for European Affairs of Montenegro and the Delegation of the European Union and emphasized the importance of this programme through the realization of the overall objective of cross-border cooperation to improve the socio-economic situation within the area by fostering co-operation and joint initiatives in the sectors such as environmental protection, sustainable agriculture and forestry as well as the touristic offers.

On this occasion, participants were addressed by the Head of the Cooperation Section of the Delegation of the European Union in Montenegro, Hermann Spitz, who highly assessed the joint achievements of this programme, as well as achieved cooperation between the two countries through a joint cross-border partnership.

After that, representatives of organizations and institutions who were beneficiaries of this programme participated in the panel discussion and presented the achievements, results and challenges they faced in the process of project implementation. They also evaluated as positive the cooperation they had in the process of implementation with their project partners from Kosovo municipalities located in the border area.

The conference was attended by representatives of the Montenegrin and Kosovo ministries, mayors of the municipalities, representatives of local and state institutions, public enterprises, project beneficiaries, representatives of Montenegrin and Kosovo media and the civil society.

Finally, we recall that the Cross-Border Cooperation Program Montenegro – Kosovo 2011-2013 has provided strategic assistance to beneficiary countries under the European Union’s Instrument for Pre-accession Assistance (IPA) and that the most important objectives were to improve the socio-economic situation of border areas, to improve cooperation in the field of environment protection, sustainability of the agricultural and forestry sector and expansion of touristic offers.
